September 17, 2009 The Wrecking Update 9/17/09
As i write this message on the tiny keys of my trusty outdated smartphone, i am becoming accustomed to the infinity of cornfield to my left and soybean fields to my right. We are travelling today from illinois to omaha nebraska, very thankful for safe travels and great events on the tour thus far. So thankful for the new friendships each day brings, as well as those dear friends back home who take the time to pray for us and our families while we are on the road.
A few updates for everyone...

We are in the studio right now putting 4 new songs through their
paces. We can’t let you hear anything just yet, but we will tell you
that it is our intension to out-do anything we have ever done with
these tracks. Working song titles right now are: “The Antidote”, “On
Fire”, “Life in Reverse”, and “About to Fall”. Here is a pic of Karl
and Dustin working some production magic… Actually it looks like
Dustin is updating his Facebook status in this particular shot… but no
matter! This stuff is sounding killer! Bass and keys tonight,
guitars start tomorrow.

Hey all,
Just a quick update to fill you in on what’s going on with The Wrecking.
This weekend we are in our home state of Maine, taking meetings with our label and management team. We are honored that our manager Traa (POD, Ryot Entertainment) would make the trip from one coast to the other to help guide us in this beautifully terrifying journey. At least it looks like we will have some good summer weather for him to enjoy while he is in Maine.
You may have heard of a little thing called iTunes… You may have purchased some of The Wrecking’s music there. But, did you see iTunes’ most recent selection of Christian Music “Rising Stars” Essentials? It’s a 15 song collection of what the good people at iTunes consider to be some of the most promising songs and artists in Christian music today. It includes artists like Mandisa, Brandon Heath, Sanctus Real, Matthew West, Leeland, Tenth Avenue North, FM Static, Jimmy Needham, and… you guessed it… The Wrecking! *Psalm 42:8 (English Standard Version) *By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
(It makes me think about how God commands His steadfast love TO me, UPON me, lavishing it ON me even though I don’t deserve it. He also commands His love OF me as well, commands it to be what people receive FROM me, because I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The last part about the “song” just rings in my head over and over… defining what music really is and really should be… “a prayer to the God of my life” That’s the best explanation of music I have ever heard. God made it, I guess I should expect His definition to be right on point.

Some folks have been asking for some background on our new song “Our Feet Don’t Touch the Ground”. It is currently being considered for the New Moon soundtrack.
(if you have not heard it yet, feel free to listen and download for FREE at www.thetwilightsong.com You can also VOTE for it to be included in the soundtrack there as well.)
This has quickly become one of my favorite songs in our setlist. The name of the game with any song is for it to SOUND to the listener like it FEELS for the band to play it. Getting lost in a song can be an amazing, cathartic experience for anyone who is willing to take the journey. This song is like that for me every time we play it.
Without giving too long of a story, and hopefully without stealing a listener’s ability to make their own connections and interpretations for the song… here goes. “Our Feet Don’t Touch the Ground” was inspired by the life and death of an uncle of mine. This man’s walk on earth was far too brief, but at the same time there were many times in my life and in the life of my brother Darren (drummer) when we would get the feeling that this person was almost out of place in this world. Living life with an unspoken longing for the way things will make sense on the other side… in the arms of God who sees the past, present, and future all at a glance.
The outro, “Oh Love only you can save US now, Oh Love only you can save ME now”, is the prayer offered up as the threshold between hospital bed and eternity was finally crossed, mixing victory with heartbreak in a way that is nearly impossible to describe without music.
The connectivity to Twilight was brought to us by some friends who heard a strong connection in the sound and content of the song, with the feeling and path of the books as well as the first film. True love carries some very clear qualities with it wherever it is found: sacrifice, endurance, selflessness, trust, joy, pain. Edward and Bella find themselves in the midst of love and all its tell-tale traits. How they navigate in and through their relationship obviously resonates in a big way with our generation and culture…as it should.
Darren and I have since spent a lot of time talking about the first film. We both loved it from both an entertainment level, as well as the way that it explores the question of why something fallen or evil would want to be right and good. To us it sounds like a deeply relevant and spiritual question to be asking ourselves every single day.

June 11, 2009 getting up early...
When I get up early at home I get to enjoy the wonders of God's creation without any distractions.
The sunlight peeking through the trees,
the mist moving in silent waves across my lawn,
the peaceful pig-like snort-snoring of my bulldog,
the inspired technological wonder of one of Gods greatest new creations… the keurig one cup at a time K-cup coffee machine!
Even if I can spend just a little time reading my bible and praying and listening to God’s still small voice, the whole day, my whole life in fact, seems to make a lot more sense.
I guess the bump in the road comes back to that blasted to-do list I was talking about…
Many times I have found that somehow without my permission or knowledge, my early morning time with Jesus has found its way ONTO my to-do list. When that happens, something is different. If I meet with Jesus out of a sense of duty or merit, the bible is no-less relevant, but my heart is different. It is often distracted by the NEED to check the checkbox on my to-do list. With a subliminal sense of accomplishment, and a quick flourish of my ever-clicking pen, I check the box, and MOVE ON to the next thing. In so doing I miss the boat. What should have been the initiation of a day of abiding together with my Lord, became an impersonal salute to the general before I marched off to get the “real work” done. God forgive me and remind me of the better way.
GOD IS IN THE MIRACLE BUSINESS. HE WANTS US TO KNOW THAT, AND BE PART OF IT.
HE NEEDS NOTHING FROM US, BUT HE WANTS EVERYTHING FROM US BECAUSE HE KNOWS COMPLETE ABANDON TO HIM IS THE BEST RECIPE FOR LIVING LIFE TO ITS FULLEST.

hey everybody,
doug here.
well i figured i should take a minute and connect with you all given all thats been going on.
we had a great trip to texas and back, logging in another 7000 miles or so on the old van and trailer. (she's still ticking :) ) so many great people along the way made for an incredible trip. every time we go to texas i like it more and more. this time we were introduced to a new lifelong friend by the name of rudy! (rudy's texas barbeque!)
its a delightful chain of heavenly little establishments at which you can fill up the van with gasoline and the fill up the band with brisket. you eat inside, at picnic tables, with plastic forks, off of sheets of wax paper.... and love every minute of it! my accent is changing just thinking about it. :)
along with some great gigs, and cuisine, we filmed 2 tv show appearances. one for Daystar network's "Check the Sound"

the other thing that was really super cool on this trip was the shooting of a NEW VIDEO for a NEW SONG called "The Sound of the Resistance" we shot the video in Tyler Texas with the Center for Creative Media based at the Acquire the Fire/ Teen Mania campus. This shoot was the biggest video production that we have ever done, and I think u all will love it. It is still in post-production as we speak. ill be sure to let you know when its ready for viewing. :)

April 21, 2009 Ahoy There!
Hey everybody,
Doug here.
Just finished a great weekend of east coast stuff. Friday night we played at dewey beach popfest, which was a lot of fun. Got to meet lots of cool folks. After a good 3 hours of sleep we headed for eastern university in pennsylvania. This was our first visit to eastern, and our first outdoor gig of 2009. Perfect weather, awesome people, loud music... Nuff said. When can we do it again? :-)
Right now we are driving to nashville for some GMA week festivities, and interviews galore. Should be a good time.
This is the 3rd GMA that we have been to and its always a lot of fun. Great to connect with people who are passionate about glorifying God thru music of one type or another. You just have to smile to look across the lobby and see a southern gospel quartet cross paths with a heavy metal band. Bazaar and Awesome!!
Now having been to a few of these events, maybe i can answer some Frequently Asked Questions that i think are quite widespread for those interested in Christian music.
Here goes...
-Yes... toby is shorter than u might think
-yes... crowder is in fact taller than u might think
-yes... family force 5 is really that insane (robot suits made of cardboard and tinfoil... yeah)
-no... never eat seafood in a restaurant more than 1000 miles from an ocean

April 15, 2009 Heading out for a bit
hi everyone, doug here. well we are hitting the road here shortly and wanted to keep you all up to date. please keep us and all of our families in your prayers.... safe travels, and fruitful efforts. :) friday night we are in Dewey Beach Delaware for an event called Popfest. should be lots of fun. if you are in that neck of the woods we would love to see you there. check out our myspace for further details. www.myspace.com/thewrecking saturday will find us at eastern university in St Davids Pennsylvania with our good friends Ten Shekel Shirt. Easter! What a great reminder each year that our connection with the God of the universe was free but not at all cheap. Thank God for His love!
So, rehearsal yesterday was great. We have a new song called “Gravity” that will be showing up in the setlist real real soon. Those of you who have been to a show in the last month or so may have noticed a couple of other new songs showing up as well (“The Sound of the Resistance”, and “The Reason”). All three of these songs are on the plate for the sophomore album by The Wre cking… coming in 2010.
But first things first…

big thanks to everyone who came out to the U Maine Augusta show! what a great night!
so one of the duties that i have, other than singing, playing guitar and backing the trailer around corners, is the exciting task of faxing paperwork to our label reps. today it was especially cool when some of the numbers on the form from saturday's show caught my attention. "Venue capacity" = 288, "event attendance" = 350. :)
that was neat. thanks so much to everyone who was there! we love Augusta!

hey everybody,
hope all is well with you and yours! well this is a bit of a CRAZY week. as you may know "You Remain" has just been added into rotation on national Christian radio giant AIR1. we are sooo incredibly thankful for this the opportunity and blessing of being part of what AIR1 does all over the country. word on the street is that at any given time the AIR1 signal is servicing ONE MILLION listeners. The AIR1 station list is a daunting sight in and of itself. (see below)
obviously that is great news to everyone in The Wrecking's camp. We make the music in hopes that it will minister God's truth to us and thru as we play it. we are humbled to see that God is expanding the numbers of those who may happen to listen.
we pray that He will continue to expand our reach by prompting listeners to become passionate for the things of God. first and foremost the GOOD NEWS of the new life that is found in Christ alone. we also hope to expand the platform of the WORLD CHANGING organizations that we are blessed to be partnered with: LOVE146, CHILDVOICE INTL., INVISIBLE CHILDREN, AND THE INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION.
